The South China Morning Post published the para-

graph drawn up by lr, Looker. The Hongkong Daily Press and

the China Mail published the paragraph so altered as to nullify

the effect of the apology and in effect to imply that Mr.

Hamilton was no worse than his predecessors.

I understand that in consequence of these two

newspapers having refused to apologize in the very reasonable

fem requested writs for libel were issued yesterday.
